LOVE LANGUAGES: ACTS OF SERVICE

The concept of "love languages" has become part of pop culture and the terms are used frequently in regard to the way that individuals feel loved and cared for in relationships.  The concept that we all give and receive love differently has been known by the mental health community for a very long time. The specific terminology of "love languages" originated in the book:

The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate is a 1992 book by Gary Chapman

The second "love language" is labeled of "acts of service." This means that for some, the way to express love and receive love is most closely tied to behaviors and actions. This doesn't mean physical touch, but rather actions that help or assist the partner. Some examples of this concept include:

1. Cooking dinner on a busy night for your partner

2. Making sure that coffee is brewing in the morning for your partner

3. Taking the time to clean the bathroom on an exhausting day for your partner

4. Taking your partner on a vacation where there allows for love and connection

For some, the concept of cleaning or cooking is foreign in regard to relationships. But cleaning the house can mean so much more than organization. It can mean allowing the partner to have free time, less stress, and allow for a loving connection.
